Inspiring Black History Month Movies and Books
Black History is American History. We are nearing the end of Black History month, and it is a great time to watch one (or more) of these six inspiring movies in the video linked below or dig into a great book. All these suggestions are listed on Common Sense Media so you can check the website for reviews by both kids and adults to see if these books and movies would be right for your teen or your family. These movies and books could spark important conversations with your kids and teens.
In our last blog, we shared book suggestions for younger readers. This week we are sharing some great books for teenagers.
In Dear Martin (which is generally appropriate for ages 14+), a boy faces racial profiling in a powerful, realistic tale. To see if you think this book is a good choice for you or your teen please click on the book cover to learn more.
The Hate U Give (which is generally appropriate for students 13+) is the powerful story of the police shooting of an unarmed Black teen. To see if you think this book is a good choice for you or your teen please click on the book cover to learn more.
