New York, New York - A Poem by Simon Glass
National Poetry Month Continues …
Last week on the blog we shared poems by YWA teachers and you can read those HERE. This week we are thrilled to share a fantasic original poem by one of our students. This poem was written as an assignment in an English class and we are so pleased that we were given permission to share it here.
New York, New York
By Simon Glass
New York, New York tall buildings and yellow cabs
New York, New York throngs of people and brightly lit ads
Subways, bridges, and tunnels unite
Staten Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens
Buildings soaring higher than my dreams
New York, New York food from all around the world
New York, New York tastes from all the flags unfurled
Italian food. Pasta and pizza galore
Street food. Pretzels and roasted nuts
American food. Hot dogs, burgers and fries curled
New York, New York with all the exhaust
New York, New York it is easy to get lost
Hot summer day with people sweating
Garbage on the street
It’s like the smell of feet
New York, New York cars honking, people talking
New York, New York phones ringing, kids walking
Street performers in the subway
Trying to make it on Broadway
Break a leg
